Fairytale coat

Now that the weather is starting to get a little bit more autumnal, I feel like wearing my new coat everyday! I love autumn and spring so much because you are able to go bare legs and still wear light jackets or coats: the best of both worlds to me!

I was inspired by a Red Valentino coat for quite some time now, and I had this beautiful fabric I picked up during the sales waiting for me to sew something:

I tried to draw my own pattern from an old Burda pattern. There were so many changes done it has nothing to do with the original. But in case you are wondering, I started with pattern 104 from December 2011. The coat had lots of pieces, I had to put them together (that was the easy part), shorten the coat quite a lot, then I changed the sleeves a little bit (they are shorter and the cap-sleeve is wider in order to create some small gathers), I drew the scallops (not easy to match), drew new facings and a lining, inserted inseams pockets, redrew the side lines to have a little bit more flare...

When I looked at my new pattern, it was so different from what I started with you wouldn't know it came from the same coat. But it was nice to have some background lines to help me.

The fabric was bought during the summer sales in Julian Lopez. They have such a great selection and during sales, the prices are very interesting (in normal times, I can only dream about bouclé, silk and 100% wool). It's a heavy cotton, very soft, almost like peach skin, and it looks like denim. I still have 1 meter and 1/2 left and I am thinking of making a little shift dress to wear with the coat. We have seen lots of suits during the Fashion Weeks and I love this classic look. 

The coat is lined with a very light white cotton with light pink polka dots. 

I used four big buttons the same colour as the topstitching, a beautiful grenate, with some relief in them. They costed me more than the fabric, but it was worth the price!

Now, I still have to find the perfect pattern for my Dior coat (ok, Dior wool and silk, that's all. I guess that's the closest I will ever get to wear something from Dior.) but I think I will do the same and find a pattern close enough and draw my dream coat from there.

Os presento mi abrigo de cuento de hadas: rosa con forma de pétalos! Había visto este abrigo de Red Valentino (arriba) y siempre volvía a mi memoria cuando pensaba en hacerme uno ligero para otoño o primavera. 

A partir de un patrón de Burda (104, diciembre 2011), he cambiado tantas cosas que ahora no tiene mucho que ver con el original. 

Las cosas fácil de cambiar: más corto, mangas más cortas también, reunir todas las piezas del original juntas (el abrigo tenía muchas piezas unidas con costura), añadir bolsillos entre las costuras de los lados.

Lo más delicado: dibujar los pétalos (no estoy segura que es la palabra adecuada. ¿Tienen otro nombre?), dibujar las nuevas vistas, dibujar un forro, cambiar la forma de las copas de las mangas para tener mas fruncidos, cambiar las líneas de los lados y detrás para hacerlo más ancho abajo.

Mucho trabajo, pero una vez la tela cortada, fue muy fácil de coser, incluso los petalos.

Y los detalles: unos botones muy chulos de color granate a juego con el pespunte y el forro de algodón fino blanco con lunares rosa (muy pequeños y muy dificil de fotografiar).

Ahora, creo que voy a hacer igual para el abrigo Dior (vale, de lana y seda Dior. Creo que va a ser la unica cosa de Dior que vestiré en mi vida, tengo que aprovechar!), buscar un patron parecido y cambiar el diseño hasta que tenga el abrigo perfecto de mis sueños.
